Twelve year-old singing sensation Daechelle has come a long way in five years. At the age of seven, her life and bedroom were consumed by Bratz(TM), from her bedspread and blankets, to posters and dolls. Now, on July 31, her song "Fearless" will appear on the Bratz(TM) Motion Picture Soundtrack [Geffen Records] alongside such multi-platinum industry heavyweights as Black Eyed Peas, Ashlee Simpson and Lifehouse. The song, now available on iTunes, will also be featured prominently in the live-action Bratz(TM) film [Lionsgate], which opens Aug. 3 on more than 2,000 screens nationwide.Daechelle was discovered by Geffen Records when the label hosted a contest for unsigned artists to submit tracks for consideration on the Bratz(TM) Motion Picture Soundtrack. Daechelle’s recording of "Fearless" was chosen out of more than 4,000 entries. What Geffen didn’t know, was that it wasn’t the first award for the song.Carried by vocals that defy her young age and boast a positive and inspirational message, Daechelle’s "Fearless" also won the pop category in the 2006 Billboard World Songwriting Contest, as well as the People’s Voice Award in last year’s International Songwriting Competition. The song was co-written by Peter Roberts and Ron Boustead. The journey to Geffen Records started for Daechelle Hernandez, crowned Little Miss Philippines Universe in 2005, when her mother discovered the Bratz(TM) competition online. But her future with the recording company has only just begun. The label -- which is the home of international superstars including Mary J. Blige, Macy Gray and Nelly Furtado -- has signed Daechelle to their roster. In addition to filming a video for "Fearless," Daechelle will soon begin work on her debut album.Says Geffen chairman Ron Fair, "She has a commanding authority, like Christina Aguilera did when I first signed her. When she starts singing, you hear the confidence of an adult."Bratz(TM) producer Avi Arad says that Daechelle is "the perfect ambassador" for the movie, citing her Filipino and Latin descent as reflective of the dolls’ diversity. The Bratz(TM) Dolls enterprise has earned more than $150 million in sales since its 2001 debut.
